Interior Painting: Giving Your Home A Brand New Appearance

During turbulent economic times just trying to stay afloat can become extremely challenging to say the least. Each day brings its own set of new struggles not to mention the ones that are constantly pressing you minute by minute. With foreclosures at an all time high it's no wonder people who are struggling just to hold on to their homes are in no financial position to hire a contractor to do anything--especially paint their house.

Trying to keep up with the mortgage note is one thing but trying to keep the maintenance up as well can really be a load that many homeowners are having great difficulty in balancing. However, it can be done with a little planning and an unyielding desire to succeed; so buckle up your seatbelt and let's begin the journey.

When it comes to painting the interior of your home there really is no right or wrong color scheme; instead, your home's interior should be a direct reflection of who you are and what you like. In other words, it should reflect your taste in color, texture, and design. No one has the right to be judgmental about  you  and what you like. No one. If dark rich colors are your choice as oppose to pastels then by all means express your feelings and let your inhibitions run free.

In all honesty, when choosing  colors, textures, patterns, and designs, there should be a logical order and balance to it all; in other words, it should make sense. Although it's true everyone should be free to express their inner feelings but at the same time there should be symmetry, balance, and order to it all. Colors should compliment one another even when they are a total contrast to each other. And with that said let's begin the actual work of transforming the interior of your home.

When it comes to homeowners' do-it-yourself projects interior painting has to rank at the top of the scale. There are some home improvement projects that are better left to licensed professionals that have the experience and the expertise to get the job done correctly and most of all safely. But interior painting is not one of them, so let's get the show on the road.

Painting your interior ceilings can really be the first step in giving the interior of your home a face lift. In my opinion, fresh painted ceilings look so attractive. Whether you choose the traditional ceiling white, or more daring colors; your ceilings will look great after they have been given a quality paint job regardless of the color; unless of course you choose some color that is beyond understanding...and then again, who knows?

As I have often stated, when it comes to painting your ceilings you can start by cutting in around the ceiling perimeter. Just take a brush and slowly paint around  the outside or perimeter of the ceiling. Remember to liberally apply the paint so that when you begin to roll the ceiling it will all blend together as oppose to having the old "hat band" effect where you can see where the brush was used to cut in around the perimeter. The objective is to have a uniform and even looking ceiling without any distinguishing tell-tell signs of what tool(s) were used to accomplish the task in the first place.

After the ceiling has been cut in around the perimeter you should roll the ceiling with a roller. Rollers usually fit over roller frames that often are designed to accommodate an extension pole that you can screw in to it to help you reach ceilings (high areas/substrates) and/or give you leverage when rolling walls. There is a wealth of information available on the Internet that goes into more details on this subject so feel free to browse for more info and details.

The key to successfully rolling your ceilings and/or walls is establishing a uniform pattern to ensure that every square inch of ceilings/walls are adequately covered with paint. In order for you to achieve great looking ceilings/walls you really need to employ a system that will help you cover the ceilings/walls uniformly. And my friend that's what it's all about: achieving an attractive finish on your ceilings and walls.

When it comes to painting your walls the same procedures as painting your ceilings are in order as well. Beautiful interior walls can be accomplished by an inexperienced painter simply by following the right procedures and implementing good techniques. That's all. You don't have to be a season professional painter to do first class quality work. Take your time and follow good (right here) instructions and practice. Yes, practice does make perfect and chances are   no one will confuse your first painting job with Michaelangelo's work but then again who knows for sure?

Your home is probably like most homes in the sense that it has a lot of trim throughout it. Trim around doors and  windows; baseboards; shoe molding, and so many other places too. Most of the time the trim is a wood product or a wood based (composite) product. In time, trim, like ceilings and walls will need to be painted too. It's not that difficult of a job to do if you allow patience to be your guide and ally. Take your time and carefully paint the trim in your house.

This is not fast work; instead, even for interior painting contractors this particular aspect of interior painting is a slow go; so relax and do your best. Always use a top quality brush, this will prove to be worth its weight in gold! Stay away from cheap brushes that can have such a negative impact on your work.

Finally, as you draw near to the conclusion of your interior painting project you should give your doors a fresh new look to accent all the other painting that you have done thus far. Regardless of the different types of doors you might have just take your time and paint smoothly. And that goes for painting your kitchen cabinets, vanity cabinets, and any and all other cabinets as well.

The key to painting is being mindful of the task you're doing and being patient. Always use good techniques that can be learned from tutorials over the Internet, and get as much information about a particular task before you begin and most of all believe in yourself and what you can do and don't let doubt and other negative thoughts render you ineffective when it's in your power to really succeed. I wish you nothing less than the best.
