Back in the early
1960s and the late 1950s American homebuilders really thought that
they had stumble unto something good when acoustics or popcorn as it is
commonly known was first introduced to the residential building market
in particular and both residential and commercial building markets in
general.
Builders' Greed
Homebuilders, collectively speaking saved billions of
dollars
which in turn stayed in their pockets. With the installation or
spraying on of
acoustics/popcorn
drywall finishers were not required to
do a top notch job or a level 5 finish as it is known in the drywall
industry today; in fact, drywall finishers weren't even required to do
a level 4 finish and many got by with producing only a level 3 finish
which is really a low grade finish; however, the acoustics/popcorn
texture was applied thick enough to mask and hide all of the drywall
finishers'
imperfections and the poorly finished ceilings would never be seen by
anyone unless of course
at some
point in time (like 2010) the acoustics/popcorn were removed!
And in addition to builders saving a bundle on low grade drywall
finishing they didn't even have to hire painters to paint the
ceilings either (the acoustics/popcorn was an off white color); it was
a win win situation for homebuilders, but it would prove to be
nothing less
than a nightmare for homeowners in the coming years.
Out With The Old and In With The New
If your ceilings are just about to make you scream from frustration
and you just can't take it anymore call us at
American Painting and
Pressure
Cleaning, Inc. We have been
spraying on and removing off
acoustics/popcorn
ceilings since 1984 and we
really understand how to
install it and/or remove it better than most. Due to the fact that
acoustics/popcorn that was installed before 1978 may contain
asbestos
a
known carcinogen that can cause cancer in both humans and animals; it
would be wise to have it removed as soon as possible. If it actually
does contain asbestos then you must call a licensed asbestos removal
service, but if it test negative (you should always have your ceilings
tested by a certified labatory in your area) then a non license
asbestos removal contractor can legally remove it from your ceiling.
In addition to the asbestos possibility, popcorn ceilings can
create an almost
unbearable environment for allergy sufferers and can be nearly
impossible
to clean. That's why when we receive a call from a distraught homeowner
we do our very best to get there as quickly as possible to begin
removing the
popcorn
ceiling
immediately.
As mention earlier in the above paragraph the drywall ceiling is
probably in poor condition in terms of the way the
drywall finishers
left it, but for us that's no problem at all because we are
professional drywall finishers as well as
drywall repairmen
and we
know just what to do to give you beautiful ceilings that are
low
maintenance and practically dust free. We spray a light attractive
texture
on your ceilings that unlike acoustics/popcorn do not hold
pockets of dust, dirt, insect bile and who knows what else.
