Interior
House Painters
and What You the Homeowner Should Expect From Them in Baton
Rouge, La.
There's
nothing wrong with hiring a painting contractor that has a large
workforce in excess of a hundred men or more and there's nothing wrong
with putting your trust in a well established painting contractor that
has the proven track record to attest to their competency and overall
success. It has to make the typical homeowner who's about to get their
home painted feel confident and secure knowing that they are placing
their house in the hands of highly successful and reputable contractor.
However, usually there is an alternative that can work just as well and
in most cases even work better not to mention the opportunity for
financial savings. The 2011 painting season is now upon most of us
throughout the United States except for regions where snow, ice, sleet,
and rain is unleashing its last wintry fix. But for us who live in
Baton Rouge, La. we can feel the new arrival of Spring in the air; we
can look all around us and see the trees and some flowers beginning to
bud. Man, what a welcome sight. And for the most part this is the
notice that Spring is making her entrance ever so subtlty.
If you look carefully you will see throughout many neighborhoods in
Baton Rouge homes being readied to paint both inside and out. Painting
contractors who have endured a larthgic winter is beginning to come out
of hiberation to resume before "old man" began to blow his horn. It is
a welcome sight I must say with all the bustling and moving around that
signals "better days are here again" .
If you are in the market to have the interior of your house or the
exterior of your house painted there are a few things I would care to
mention before you strike out on your mission. First of all there is an
alternative to hiring a painting contractor that is tried and true, and
that is hiring a painter that is tried and true. That's right. It's
really not mandatory that you hire an interior painting contractor to
paint the inside of your house and/or an exterior painting contractor
to paint the outside of your house unless of course you insist on doing
so.
And what is the alternative you might ask? Well, the alternative is
quite simple for all to know. You see, there are individuals that ply
their trade as a solo
artist only and they are mostly
concentrated in the residential sector but can be found on many small
commercial jobs as well. These lone house painters sometimes specialize
in interior house painting and some of them specialize in exterior
house painting but most are specialists in both interior and exterior
house painting.
What's the difference between a residential house painter
that works alone and a
residential house painting contractor? For the most part with
everything being
basically equal (skills, talent, and experience) the only real obvious
difference is the number of workers on the job. For instance, an
interior painting contractor can usually put several painters on a
job--usually, not always, and with a lone house painter he/she is the
whole show wraped up in one big smile. That's it. And you can best
believe for the most part that the lone house painter wouldn't have it
any
other way.
For the homeowner this could mean great savings but not in all cases.
Hiring a painting contractor with the available manpower to put on your
job does not automatically signal that your job will be done more
quicker and more efficiently than with the lone house painter; instead,
you may find that the lone house painter is much more concerned with
the details and quality of work he/she is producing as oppose to high
productivity above all else. Now this is not always the case but in
many situations it has turned out this way more often than
not.
There are many situations here in Baton Rouge, La. as well as around
the country where several house painters have joined forces to become a
team of house painters that are able to tackle more jobs; larger jobs,
and finish those jobs in a more timely manner. These type operations
help ensure more work and a steadier income for each house painter as a
norm; however, it also means a smaller take or payday per job for each
painter too, but this type of arrangement allows the painters to be
able to acquire and finish more work which in turn will quickly
negate the down side of forming an impromptu partnership. All across
America many house painters
team up together to help each other to be more effective and efficient
in every way. For most house painters it's proven to be a win win
situation for them, but unfortunately for some it has been nothing
short of a nightmare.
In conclusion, I just would like to reiterate this point once again:
sometimes hiring a large successful house painting contractor, be it an
interior house painting contractor, exterior house painting contractor
or even a commercial contractor that has decided for one reason or
another to take on your residential project could prove to be not the
best choice you could've made. Sometimes smaller is better and a
close working relationship can prove to be priceless between craftsman
and homeowner.
Getting a clear and concise understanding of what you want first and
then being able to communicate your wants and needs to the prospective
house painting contractors or house painter(s) is the best foundation
you as a homeowner can lay. Take your time and speak clearly and
effectively on what you want and then listen carefully to what the
candidates are saying and weigh their words carefully.
As always, you must study and review your notes after interviewing each
prospective candidate before actually hitting the pavement and
physically going to take a good look at some of their previous work,
and by all means try to discuss with the homeowner or
property owner about their experience dealing with the candidate(s) in
question. This can really be a tremendous help in assisting you with as
much information you will need in order to make the best possible
choice for you and your project.
Whether you choose to employ an interior painting contractor or not
note one thing about all interior painting contractors and I'm pretty
sure this can apply to all painting contractors as well as the lone
house painter or house painters: make sure you get a written estimate
as well as a written contract with the language and terms that you
agree with--not what they tell you. You are in control and there's no
reason why you should relinquish that control one bit; afterall, you
hired them and you're the one that's financing the project . Okay? Okay.
Note:
Before
hiring any candidate for your project be sure to do a criminal
background check on each person that will be working in and around your
home, and try to speak with as many of their references as possible and
listen to them carefully, sometimes it not what they say but what they
don't say that could really tell the true story. And if possible if you
can manage to visit a previous job of the prospective candidates that
would be great, however, it could be dangerous in some cases so don't
rush in without doing your homework first. Thanks and good luck.
