Why
Should You Choose
an
Exterior House Painter as Opposed to an Exterior House Painting
Contractor in Baton Rouge, La.
There
are many homeowners in Baton Rouge, La.who have for years employed the
services of a large painting contracting company based right here in
town and for years they have been more than pleased with the work and
the service that has been provided to them. And you can best believe
that
they're not about to "swith horses in the middle of the stream" for
any reason if they can help it.
There
are some mega painting contractors here in Baton Rouge, La. that
is responsible for over 90% of all large commercial and industrial
painting projects that come available and it's not uncommon for some
of these large workforce painting contractors to do special residential
projects as well; however, for the most part many of these large
painting contracting firms once shun small single dwelling projects for
much
more lucrative commercial and industrial ones.
That
is until the economy took a nose dive a few years ago and since
has only sputtered along at best and for the most part it appeared that
Baton Rouge, La. might be spared the trauma most of the nation was
undergoing. But unfortunately it seems that even Baton Rouge has begun
to suffer under the strain of a weak and feable economy.
Many
jobs have been lost especially in the construction industry; in
fact, commercial building has hit a record low while new homes are down
in some neighboring parishes as much as 66%. Large painting contractors
that once enjoyed great prosperity are now force to search high and low
in areas that they once shunned. For the first time in recent history
small mom and pop painting businesses as well as lone residential
(house) painters
are having to compete with the
major painting contractors for jobs that are scarce and far between.
Increasing
numbers of journeyman painters as well as foremen and
supervisors have been layed off because of a shortage of work and the
prospect of a brighter day is just not in the immediate sight for most
large painting contractors not to mention the mom and pop contracting
firms that have mostly struggled to keep their heads above water in the
best of times. And still there's another group of painters that have
had to
deal with an unhealthy economy, and that is the self employed lone
residential (house)
painter that works by him/herself.
Although
it might seem that without overhead expenses like staff and
personnel these small operations would fair the best in times of
sparsity but the truth is really just the opposite. Oftentimes, they
are
the first to feel the economic impact of a sluggish economy and in most
cases financially they are the least able to sustain themselves during
economic hard times, but somehow and someway year after year they just
keep coming back. Bruised and wounded these self determined craftsmen
seem to battle victoriously every battle that is thrown at them and
come back just as determined as before.
Now
with the arrival of Spring many homeowners are beginning to think
about sprucing up the old home front and giving the exterior of their
home a face lift. And with most they will probably be hiring a painting
contractor to paint the exterior of their house.
Homeowners in this
city in particular and in this region in general are really blessed to
have so many skillful and talented painting contracting firms right
here in Baton Rouge. As mentioned earlier due to the anemic condition
of the national economy as well as our own local economy large
painting contracting companies have already begun to infiltrate the
single
dwelling market/house repaints with full force.
Self
employed residential (house) painters are having to think outside the
box in
order to try and hold on to their little niche market, but it's getting
harder and harder with each passing day that the economy continues to
spiral
downward. However, for many homeowners they know the quality of work
and the quality of service that many of these "one man band" provides
and they refuse to hire a large painting contractor who might be
able to finish the job a little faster.
Many
residential (house painters) who work alone have built up a loyal
following that
look to them for all of their painting needs and in many cases even
more. Although it's true there are some obvious disadvantages to hiring
a lone house painter as opposed to hiring a painting contractor with a
full staff and full crew ready to assist in every way that they can;
however, with most lone house (residential) painters the quality of
work along with
genuine down home humility more than make up for the extra time that it
might
take for him/her to completely finish the job.
In
closing, let me just say this: your project might be such that it
demands the attention of a full crew and no less, and if that's the
case then by all means you should seek out the services of perhaps a
large painting contractor for obvious reasons, but if the nature of
your job is such that time is not of the essence and productivity is
not on
a tight schedule you might should consider hiring a lone house painter
that comes with the reputation of doing beautiful work and exhibiting
fine craftsmanship along with friendliness and down home manners.
Personally,
I have nothing against the large painting contractors
that's out to make a living just like everybody else, it's just that
before you choose to hire some of the big timers how about
interviewing that lone house painter(s) who always give it his very
best
job after job; year in and year out. I can tell you a lot about this
kind of craftsman, I think I know them quite well. Happy Spring time
Baton Rouge.
